DIRECTORATE: TOURISM DESTINATION DEVELOPMENT AND TRANSFORMATION SERVICES

Purpose: To support and facilitate tourism development and transformation programmes


The directorate is responsible for the following:


  • Oversee the implementation of national and provincial tourism strategies
  • Provide support on destination planning initiatives within Limpopo province.
  • Facilitate the integration of tourism with other related sectors, e.g. transport, creative industries, environment, events, etc.
  • Facilitate tourism investment opportunities
  • Facilitate tourism destination development initiatives
  • Monitor the tourism infrastructure and facilitate the maintenance thereof
  • Ensure enhancement of tourism destination initiatives through signage
  • Manage tourism industry signage applications to relevant road authorities such as RAL and SANRAL
  • Support planning and implementation for prioritised projects related to tourism infrastructure, product, experience and route development
  • Support the resource mobilisation for community based tourism development initiatives
  • Promote implementation of responsible tourism practices
  • Support the creation of conducive environment for tourism to flourish thus contribute to economic growth and job creation
  • Facilitate enablers for tourism growth
  • Ensure implementation of targeted tourism capacity building, awareness and transformation programmes
  • Facilitate tourism generic service excellence standards and norms within the industry
  • Facilitate and support economic empowerment through enterprise development
  • Implement the tourism awareness programmes within the tourism industry
  • Promote tourism safety awareness campaigns
