Sekhukhune District Municipality is a cross-border municipality between Limpopo and Mpumalanga Province. The district
shares borders with Waterberg and Capricorn districts in Limpopo; Nkangala, Highveld District Council, Lowveld Escarpment district in Mpumalanga Province.
During the transition period some portions of the Municipality was formerly administered by the Northern District Council, Bosveld District Council,
Lowveld Escarpment District Council and Highveld District Council.
The Municipality was established as per section 12 of the municipal structures Act 117 of 1998 as a cross border District Municipality. It comprises of five
municipalities namely: Fetakgomo Municipality, Makhuduthamaga Municipality, Greater Marble Hall Municipality, Greater Groblersdal Municipality and
Greater Tubatse Municipality.
