EXCO meets the people of Ha-Mulima
|
Limpopo entrepreneurs get a chance to shine
May 2010 - The Mulima community in the south most part of the Vhembe District resiliently braved somber weather to reclaim their standing in a democratic government. This was demonstrated as multitudes of the people of the area walked the muddy streets to Mulima Community Sports Field to offer an audience to Premier Mathale's Executive Council (EXCO) on its mission to give feedback to voters and refresh its mandate with them.
The programme of the day was preceded by MEC's visiting projects in their areas of responsibility, a worthwhile exercise for our political leaders and their departmental teams as it created an opportunity for them to preempt the issues and concerns the community leaders were likely to raise. A number of visits however did not take place due to heavy rain that had damaged access roads to the identified projects.
It was an opportune time for different government departments to exhibit themselves and distribute their information material. LEDET distributed 5 different brochures and more than 1500 copies of Entirhweni Newsletter.
The day's formal programme then proceeded with a warm welcome by Khosi Vho-Mulima whose introduction became the main focus of the programme whereby speaker after speaker joined in the anthem of bad road conditions to issues of people living with disabilities.
The SANCO-Makhado representative, Mr. Daniel Masindi led the community stakeholder leaders and put the summary of issues as follows:
- The need for government to tar the road from Soekmekkaar to Chabane.
- That the Lambani and Thandoni water project is incomplete whilst other projects are not handed over to communities.
- That they are unable to participate economically in the 2010 FIFA World Cup due to lack of electricity in some of their villages.
- That the lack of and bad road conditions, as well as the distance to the nearest health institution are a cause for unnecessary death of patients.
- Tshitale residents are yet to benefit from Government's RDP house scheme (Government subsidized housing provisioning for the lower income groups).
- That an old mine at Muwaweni Mining Projects was shut down in the past and the deposits availability scan suggests there is still mineral deposits lying underground, giving the community prospects of reopening the mine and generate jobs and wealth for the locals.
- The department of Public Works have not yet completed the establishment of a Community Hall in the area.
- LEDET requested to fund a community run library.
- That a lot of vacant farms are unused.
- Need for support of Community Development Projects.
- Intervention on the following community based Projects: Luhufhe Agricultural Project; Muwaweni Project; Mulima Pfanani Poultry Project.
Various members of the executive council responded to matters relating to their departments. In response to the issues raised by the community leaders, MEC Pitsi Moloto said a meeting would be arranged with SANCO in two weeks time for a discussion on the possibility of reopening the mining project. He also emphasized that another meeting will focus on the possibility of assisting with the development of the library. In the end the MEC indicated that government with do all in its power to meet the needs of the people.
Premier Cassel Mathale's Executive Council will also meet the people of Mmotwaneng on Friday 28 May 2010 at the Mmotwaneng Sports Ground in the Ephraim Mogale Municipality, Greater Sekhukhune District. The time of the outreach will be 09H00.
