Quarter 2 Labour Force Survey Summary
LIMPOPO PROVINCE, POLOKWANE: The department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism has released its Quarter 2 Labour Force Survey which indicates that Limpopo created 9000 jobs in the second quarter of 2021 while the total number of people employed in the province is 1 257 000. The number of people who are entering the job market is also increasing.
The expanded unemployment rate has been steadily increasing since 2019 and is now almost at 50%. The trend has continued with the unemployment rate increasing from last quarter’s 29.4% to 30.4 %. The number of people who are discouraged from looking for employment decreased by 13 000 from 592 000 in the first quarter of 2020 to 579 000 in the second quarter of 2021. Most of the sectors have increased the number of jobs created except for three, namely; Transport, Finance and Social Services.
